With a paid staff of 22 and a General Operating Budget of $5.8 million, the American Canyon Fire Protection District proudly serves over 20,000 residents including the City of American Canyon and a portion of southern Napa County. Out of one station, the District provides a high level of fire suppression, prevention, rescue and emergency medical services (first response Advanced Life Support Program) and in 2019 responded to 66 fires, 1,076 EMS calls, and 619 other calls. With significant growth on the horizon for the region, the District is currently planning for a second fire station. This will necessitate a Standards of Cover study and an updated Strategic Plan. The ideal candidate will be a people-oriented individual with excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to problem solving. The new Fire Chief will also be forward thinking, a team player, coach, and mentor with significant and broad experience in all aspects of the fire service. Ten years of fire service experience, including at least three years at the rank of Battalion Chief or higher, and a Bachelor’s degree required. Significant advanced work experience and accomplishments may be an offset to the degree requirement. Prior experience working in a fire protection district is preferred. The salary range is from $165,000 to $190,000; CalPERS 2.7% @ 57 for PEPRA employees, 3% @ 55 for Classic employees; and excellent benefits including retiree medical.
