The Verde Valley Ambulance Company Board of Directors is seeking a professional with experience in EMS to fill the existing position of the retiring EMS Chief. The EMS Chief position is a salaried position with pay depending on experience between $ 80,000-$95,000. This position has a benefit package consisting of family Health, Eye, and Dental Insurance, a 4% matching 401K, uniforms, and PTO. This position is to be filled June 15, 2021 with an interim period starting in April or May 2021.
The EMS Chief works as the general manager of the Ambulance Company and reports to the Verde Valley Ambulance Company Board of Directors.
The work schedule is Monday-Friday 40-50 hours a week as needed to complete tasks or fill in for operations or administration if needed.
The Verde Valley Ambulance Company, Inc. is a 501-C-3 nonprofit corporation that has served the Verde Valley area since 1971. Verde Valley Ambulance Company operates under a CON “Certificate of Necessity” governed by the Department of Health Services Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.
Operating hours are 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Two Full-time ALS/BLS crews are staffed with an A-B-C shifts, 7am to 7am, and 7 days a week. We also have a Day Crew shift that operates between the hours of 6am to 6pm. This crew helps cover 911 calls along with taking interfacility transports. Our reserve program helps to staff our 12 hour “on call” positions. These positions also help with back-fill or whatever the needs of the day would be.
VVAC is governed by a 5-7 person volunteer Board of Directors that meet monthly. The EMS Chief is responsible for all aspects of VVAC including compliance with ADHS requirements and reporting. Each shift has a Captain responsible for supervision, staff assignments, training and EMS responses during their designated shift.
VVAC has an in-house billing department, consisting of one full-time employee. The EMS Chief is also responsible for the oversite of this department.
Our operating budget is $2,700,000. We work on a regular a calendar year for reporting. VVAC’s call volume is around 4500 calls per year with approximately 1000 of those calls being interfacility transports.
In our response area, we work closely with different types of fire agencies. One is a volunteer agency, another is a municipality, and the last is a district. We also work with agencies farther out through automatic aid/ mutual aid agreements.
The population in our service area is about 20,000. We transport our 911 calls to our one local hospital in Cottonwood. Interfacility transports may often go to Phoenix, Flagstaff, or Kingman. The towns in our area are Jerome, Clarkdale and Cottonwood. We are located about 100 miles north of Phoenix and 60 miles south of Flagstaff.
