The purpose of this recruitment is to fill current and upcoming vacancies and to establish an eligibility list for future openings. Successful candidates may be considered for a potential hire February 2022.  Applicants must successfully complete each step of the process.

Firefighters are responsible for the protection of life and property through prevention, suppression, and in response to emergency calls. Firefighters partner and engage with the community to promote risk reduction and preparedness. Our new firefighters will be joining a progressive organization which has invested in its people and equipment to provide outstanding, high quality services to our community. 

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

Salary:

The anticipated hiring range for this position is $71,968 (first step) to $76,509 or $80,948 (second or third step).  Directly related experience and qualifications will be evaluated alongside others who perform work of comparable character as required by Pay Equity Law. Five steps are included in this salary range, allowing opportunity for annual movement through the steps.

Additionally, pay differentials for advanced EMT certifications are available as follows:

o   Advanced 2%

o   Intermediate 5%

o   Paramedic 9.5%

Typical Job Duties

These duties are a representative example; position assignments may vary depending on the business needs of the department and organization.  This position:

·        Participates in the practice of firefighting skills in organized drills, and enforces fire codes and other related laws; responds to hazardous material emergencies and performs mitigation activities.

·        Operates ground monitors and power-driven machinery, such as hydraulic and pneumatic rescue tools, etc. 

·        Responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for assistance in:

o   Administering emergency medical care/services.

o   Laying and connecting hose lines, operating nozzles and directing water streams.

o   Carrying, raising and climbing ladders. 

o   Entering burning buildings for fire and rescue operations.

o   Using chemical extinguishers, various hand and power tools, and other equipment.

o   Mitigating the effects of natural disasters affecting public safety.

o   Ventilating buildings, performing salvage/overhaul operations, and clean-up.

o   Checking the fire scene for point of origin and source of ignitions.

·        Works as an integral part of a firefighting unit, utilizing procedures and techniques as prescribed by the Department.

·        Analyzes emergency situations quickly to detect natural gas leaks, mitigate traffic hazards, and detect signs of impending building collapse.

·        Performs pre-fire surveys, station tours, public relations and public education activities within the school system and civic groups.

·        Participates in the practice of firefighting skills in organized drills.

·         Uses good written and communication skills to write reports and communicate effectively with others.

·        Performs various cleaning and maintenance of stations, apparatus, equipment and grounds.

·        Scope of assigned area will depend on departmental structure and is at the discretion of the Fire Chief.

·        Upholds the values of the organization and has strong customer service orientation.

·        Must have the ability to handle job stress and interact effectively with others in the workplace.

·        Must be honest and truthful in all tasks and responsibilities.

·        Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

·        Demonstrates regular, reliable and punctual attendance.
