THE POSITION — FIRE CHIEFThe Fire Chief oversees and directs all activities of the Fire Department for the City and sur-rounding areas in mutual aid circumstances. Responsibilities include strategic planning for use of City resources, coordinating the activities of the Department, and ensuring that the services provided are of the highest quality. The Fire Chief will understand the importance of delivering responsive, high-quality customer service at all times. The Fire Chief will be comfortable interacting and engaging with the community and will focus on enhanced emergency preparedness.
The Fire Chief will be a visionary with a proven track record of providing progressive, competent, and practical leadership. This individual will be a strategic thinker who possesses strong communication skills, decision making abilities, and the desire and vision to shape the culture of the organization. The next Fire Chief will possess substantial knowledge of applicable federal and state laws, ordinances, standard operating procedures, and regulations in fire service and operations; experience in budget development and management, strategic planning, and organizational development; and experience in the Incident Command System.
