GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION: Subject to the authority of the Board of Commissioners, the Fire Chief shall serve as the chief administrative officer of the SMFPD, and shall perform his or her duties under the Board’s direction. The Fire Chief is responsible for directing the operations and activities of the SMFPD as well as supervising district officers and volunteer personnel. The Fire Chief is the primary authority and command at the scene of a fire. He or she is responsible for ensuring SMFPD personnel are properly trained and all firefighting equipment is properly maintained. The Fire Chief shall assume the responsibility for the duties charged and delegated to him or her by law, ordinance and SMFPD policy.
