Assistant Fire Chief – Support Services

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Fire Chief, the Assistant Fire Chief serves as a member of the management team, may participate in labor negotiations and assists the Civil Service Secretary/Chief Examiner with recruitment and selection activities. The Assistant Fire Chief may take command of operational personnel at the scene of any incident or emergency. As an exempt management position, the normal workweek is forty hours. The Assistant Fire Chief is primarily responsible for managerial and administrative work of all support service functions (training, fire prevention and administration), as well as administrative functions that support operations. The Assistant Fire Chief of Support Services normally directs the day-to-day activities of the Fire Marshal, Deputy Fire Marshal, Administrative Assistant and Administrative Specialist, but may direct activities of any operational member of the department. Serves as the Acting Chief in the absence of the Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief - Operations, and oversees departmental oerpations in the absence of the Operations Chief.
