The City of Victorville seeks a Fire Chief to join its dynamic team! The City is looking for a Chief who has considerable experience in fire suppression, emergency medical services, and command leadership. THE JOB
The Fire Chief reports to the City Manager and is a member of the City’s Leadership Team. This Chief will oversee the Fire Department’s 80 staff and $22 million budget and assume full management responsibility for all Department services and activities of the Department, including policy development, fiscal management, code enforcement, emergency medical services, arson investigation, fire suppression, mitigation, and prevention, and ensure a positive organizational culture that is aligned with the City’s mission, vision, values, and goals. This position will hire, train, mentor, and retain talented staff and stay informed of new trends and innovations in the field of emergency medical service. They will have a strong understanding of local, federal, and state laws, codes, and ordinances and ensure that the Department is consistently compliant. Additionally, they will spearhead goal setting and long-term strategic planning, monitor the effectiveness of the Department’s team, and work effectively with other departments, executive leadership, regional partners, elected officials, and Victorville’s constituents.

The successful candidate will foster a positive culture, and be an excellent communicator, negotiator, and relationship builder.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
A combination of training, education, and experience directly related to the level of leadership and the scope of organizational authority/responsibility that provides the knowledge, skills, and behaviors required to accomplish the duties and responsibilities of the position as described herein. Typically, this will include:
· Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, with major course work in the fire sciences, public administration, business, or a related field; and
· Considerable years (10 preferred) of fire suppression experience; and
· Adequate years of supervisory experience in fire service command, ideally ranked Battalion Chief or above, within a multi-station municipal or rural fire department with paid personnel; and
· Significant years of administrative and budgetary experience, and
· Experience and oversight addressing labor and employee relations matters in a represented labor environment; and
· Possess a valid California Class “C” driver’s license upon hire, or out-of-state equivalent, and maintain throughout the length of employment with the City of Victorville; and
· Significant knowledge of fire prevention, mitigation, and fire code application; and
· Experience with emergency management and medical services.
HIGHLY DESIRABLE:
· Chief Fire Officer, or Executive Chief Fire Officer Certification, per the State of California Fire Marshall, or out of state or national equivalent
· Master’s degree
