THE DEPUTY FIRE CHIEF POSITION OVERVIEW

The Deputy Fire Chief provides highly responsible and complex staff assistance to the Fire Chief. The Deputy Fire Chief also assumes the role of Fire Chief in the absence of the Fire Chief.

The primary purpose of this position is to manage and supervise the day-to-day line operations of the Yocha Dehe Fire Department (on-duty emergency response
personnel) and to administer the Department’s training program. Department operations are comprised of three platoons of career (battalion chiefs, captains,
engineer/paramedics, and firefighter/paramedics), all of whom respond to fire, rescue, EMS at the paramedic level, and hazardous materials emergency incidents
on Tribal lands and adjacent areas. The Deputy Chief also commands multi-company emergency operations. The Department’s training program provides the expertise and resources needed to fully train and prepare line personnel to respond to and mitigate fire, technical rescue, hazardous materials, and EMS emergencies.
