IWCE Leader of the Year: A Call to Vote
Published: 2/05/2020
Author: Chief Jeffrey Johnson (Ret.), CEO, Western Fire Chiefs Association

It is a great honor to share my nomination for the 2020 International Wireless Community (IWCE) “Leader of the Year” award. The award recognizes an executive and thought leader whose outstanding leadership has resulted in the implementation and success of critical communications in their business and beyond. Popular vote over the course of two months leading up to IWCE ultimately decides the winner. It is a privilege to be nominated alongside many talented executives, including a great supporter and friend of the Western Fire Chiefs, TJ Kennedy, founder of the Public Safety Network. Our fellow nominees are some of the brightest in the field and have made innovative strides in communications.

Amongst the nominees is an individual Mr. Kennedy and I believe deserves recognition, and ultimately the award. Andrew Seybold is an accomplished wireless sector visionary, and a public safety communications advocate. He was an early proponent of the "D" block spectrum for public safety and then a supporter of the FirstNet legislation, which deployed a nationwide public safety broadband network. As a tireless advocate for public safety communications, he has continued to focus on open standards and how they can drive more innovation for first responders. Additionally, he has helped promote dialogue and honest information to further the improvement of the technology we provide to our first responders. Andrew Seybold exemplifies the ideals of this award through his outstanding leadership in the communications industry, his numerous publications, educational programs, and commitment to public safety.

While a vote for any of us is appreciated, TJ and I will be casting our vote for Andy and hope you join us.

Voting closes March 23.
