Last December an unlikely confrontation unfolded during a fire at a home in Hyattsville. Prosecutors allege two volunteer firefighters fought a career female firefighter over who got to enter the home first and be in charge of the scene. Authorities claim Chris Kelly, out of the West Lanham Hills station, hit the career female firefighter knocking her off the front porch. They also allege Jeff Miller, another volunteer, grabbed the career female fighter and pulled her off the porch when she tried to enter the home a second time. Both men face a number of charges including assault and misconduct in office. “Providing fire and emergency medical services is not a competition and is not a turf battle,” said Prince George's County Fire Chief Marc Bashoor.
