A Local Law introduced by Chairman Dan J. Reynolds and the Majority Legislators that shields and protects First Responders has been approved by the Broome County Legislature. At the Regular Legislative Session held on Thursday, December 19th, the Legislature approved the Emergency First Responders Protection Act of 2019. The local law allows charges to be brought against anyone who harasses a first responder while they are engaged in their official duties in Broome County. If convicted, an individual could face a sentence of up to one year in jail and/or a fine of up to $5,000 for the most egregious offenses.
“Looking out for our emergency first responders and their safety is one way we can show support for those who are the first to answer the call of duty,” said Chairman Dan J. Reynolds.
