A story we've been watching closely all week is the fight between Youngstown's firefighter's union and the administration.
The union has accused city leaders of swapping one safety issue for another. The fire chief stands behind his proposal. However, the issue was placed before the city's safety committee on Thursday and has now been forwarded on to council as a whole to weigh-in.
"I'm very concerned with the safety of firefighters and police officers, but I'm beginning to feel as if someone is playing games with us here," said Safety Committee Chairman Nate Pinkard.
The firm words came after the committee learned more about what lead to the chief's tough decision to propose cutting two-battalion chief positions, through attrition, to pay for changes to the department's radio system. The changes have been called for from the firefighter's union, who filed a grievance and pushed the issue to arbitration.
