A longtime member of the Tulsa Fire Department received a historic confirmation to the State Fire Marshal Commission.
Gov. Kevin Stitt recently appointed Training Chief Julie Lynn as the first woman to serve on the commission.
She will replace Stan May, who resigned as commissioner after being elected to the state House of Representatives in January.
The Senate Public Safety Committee unanimously confirmed Lynn last week.
Lynn said the appointment came as a surprise but she’s honored to serve the state. Despite being the first woman to serve in that capacity, she doesn’t stress that fact. “I don’t like to be put in that limelight,” Lynn said. “I think that we all do a great job, whether male or female.”
Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum called Lynn an “exemplary” leader in the community and said the city is proud to continue to be represented on the commission.
Lynn is TFD’s chief of training, and she represents the career and volunteer firefighters of the state on the commission.
