More than 100 firefighters battled a massive fire at the Ambassador Hotel near downtown Dallas Tuesday morning. No injuries were reported and the fire is under control.
Dallas Fire-Rescue responded about 1:30 a.m. to the hotel at 1312 South Ervay Street. The six-story building was engulfed in flames and firefighters shifted to a defensive position. One person, the building's caretaker, was at the location but was not harmed.
Multiple ladder pipes, engine master streams and ground lines were used to extinguish the fire at the building, which sustained multiple collapses, Dallas Fire-Rescue said. Smoke billowed over Interstate 30.
The historic was being transformed into apartments with shops, restaurants, a swimming pool and a speakeasy bar.
The cause of the fire has been undetermined. No injuries have been reported.
