For the first time since pay raises were re-instituted for city employees two years ago after nearly a decade without them, not everyone will be given the same hike to base pay in 2020.
An agreement with the members of Richmond Professional Firefighters Inc. Local 1408, the union that represents the city's firefighters, calls for a pay raise of 5% next year while the proposed 2020 budget includes a 2% increase for all city employees who aren't part of a bargaining unit.
There are four unions representing various city workers, including Local 1408, the Fraternal Order of Police No. 63, Amalgamated Transit Union Division 1471 and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Local 1791.
Richmond's Board of Public Works and Safety will vote Thursday on the new three-year agreement between the city and its firefighters. It's the first union contract for 2020 and beyond to make it to the board for a final vote.
