VIDEO: A two-alarm fire in Gerritsen Beach left two people injured Thursday, fire officials say.
The fire started at a house on the corner of Knapp Street and Avenue W at around 8 p.m.
Citizen app footage shows the fire tearing through the home.
Crews were eventually able to get the fire under control and extinguish it.
The back of the home was left charred and windows were destroyed.
The fire department says two people were treated for minor injuries at the scene.
A neighbor nearby, Cynthia Lew, says she had to put her mask on to avoid smoke inhalation.
“I have never experienced a fire like this ever before and the smoke was like really all over,” Lew says.
Avenue W remained closed off to traffic as of 7 a.m. Friday.
There is no word on the cause of the fire.
