In addition to battling blazes, Dearborn Heights firefighters are hard at work these days trying to snuff out something that hits very close to home for them – cancer. The department has embraced a “Movember” fundraising campaign that encourages mustache growth to raise awareness of men’s health issues. Firefighters are selling shirts and hats emblazoned with a specially-designed logo featuring caricatures of two members of Dearborn Heights Professional Firefighters Union Local 1355. One of those faces belongs to Lt. James Ursitti. He said the decision to put down their razors and electric shavers was an easy one. “Cancer rates for firefighters are extremely high when compared to the general public,” he said.
