Why am I not receiving the Daily Dispatch email newsletter?

It is possible that spam filters are catching the Daily Dispatch and keeping it from reaching your inbox. You should add our IP address and domain name to your ‘”white list”, or have your local administrator update your spam settings on your email system or spam scanning infrastructure. In some cases, you may need to contact your email service provider to make sure the Daily Dispatch is "white listed" and not being mistakenly identified as an unsolicited email.  The Daily Dispatch is sent from the IP address of 198.145.1.114 and 198.145.1.118, with the from address always ending with @dailydispatch.com. 

How do I subscribe to the Daily Dispatch?

The process is quick and the Daily Dispatch is FREE.  Find the "Quick Subscribe" box on the right hand side of the Daily Dispatch homepage.  Fill in blanks.  You may subscriber to multiple state dispatches.

How do I unsubscribe from the Daily Dispatch?

Visit the Unsubscribe link provided at the bottom of the email newsletter or find the Unsubscribe link at the bottom of the Daily Dispatch homepage. You may still read the Daily Dispatch from the website if you prefer.   

Why does the Daily Dispatch charge for advertising?

The Daily Dispatch relies on advertising revenue from corporate sponosr advertising, recruitment advertising and equipment classifieds to help offset the cost of the news service subscriptions and staffing requirements to produce 50 unique newsletters each weekday.

How much does it cost to run an ad on the Daily Dispatch?

Advertising costs vary based on the amount of exposure you would like your ad to receive. Ads are placed in the daily email newsletter and on the public website for six to ten weeks (dependent upon the type of ad) reaching over 60,000 readers each day. Ad rates are subject to change; email advertising@dailydispatch.com or call 503.419.6423 for a rate card.

Where does the Daily Dispatch get the articles it publishes?

Staff hand-selects articles from a national online news service that gathers news from over 5,000 sources. With the help of boolean strings and keywords, staff search daily, weekly and college newspapers, magazines and specialty publications, radio, television and cable outlets, trade press and Internet only publications to find the news that is most relevant to the fire service community.

Why does the Daily Dispatch publish some articles that do not put the fire service in a good light?

Articles that are reported by the news media are selected based on interest and relevancy to the readership. Every attempt is made to be neutral in the selection of news articles. The Daily Dispatch staff will make every effort to publish retractions from news outlets that have erred in their reporting. Why do some of the news sites require me to register?

The Daily Dispatch staff has determined that in order to provide quality news, some of the sites that require a registration of the user should be used. This is the case when the news outlet is the primary news source in the local area or when the news article is of particular interest and cannot be accessed through an alternative media source. Most of the time, the news site will require a one-time registration, which will save a cookie on the user's computer for future visits.

Why do I get pop-up ads when I click on the Daily Dispatch news links?

The Daily Dispatch does NOT utilize pop-up ads and recognizes that they are an annoyance to most of its users. Some of the news websites the Daily Dispatch links to utilize pop-up advertising on their pages. The Daily Dispatch avoids selecting news from services that use these ads to excess however many mainstream media utilize popups. Downloading pop-up blocking software or an upgrade to your operating system may reduce or eliminate this problem.

I would like to follow a story in my area. Will the Daily Dispatch create a news thread on it?

The Daily Dispatch often follows a story over a period of time, publishing breaking news as it becomes available. If you have a particular story of interest to the fire service in your area, please let us know. Email us at news@dailydispatch.com and provide a link to online material.  Staff will add news threads when they are determined to be of interest to the readership.

I found an error on the Daily Dispatch, how can I report it?

Please contact support@dailydispatch.com and describe the error. Staff will correct the error or publish a correction if necessary.

How do I link the Daily Dispatch to my website?

Many sites have asked us for a graphic that can be displayed on their site as a link to the Daily Dispatch. How did the Daily Dispatch get started?

The Daily Dispatch was first published in Oregon in 2003. It was well received by the Oregon Fire Chiefs Association (OFCA) membership, and readership quickly increased. The Western Fire Chiefs Association (WFCA), a division of the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), then gradaully provided the service to all seven U.S. divisions of the IAFC.
