The final decision on a three-year contract between the city of Fairbanks and Fairbanks Firefighters Union has been postponed by the Fairbanks City Council. The council voted 3-2 to postpone deciding on the contract until their next meeting on July 23. Councilmen Jerry Cleworth and David Pruhs voted not to postpone after expressing their desire to hash out the contract and not delay the decision another two weeks. “I can not, with any responsibility in my body, vote for this. Highly irresponsible to think about ratifying this. We were never given these numbers when we were supposed to have,” Pruhs said. Council members voting in favor of postponement cited their desire to get a fuller picture of the financial implications of the contract.
