From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., members of the Anchorage Police Department, the Anchorage Fire Department and local Emergency Medical Technicians took on stair climbers at the Alaska Club West to see how many flights of stairs they could climb in 11 minutes while wearing full gear. Firefighters can wear gear that can weigh over 65 pounds. Those who responded to the Sept. 11, 2001, World Trade Center terrorist attacks had to climb as many as 110 floors. This event is what inspired first-responders to take on the challenge every year and raise money for the Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial. AFD firefighter and EMT Luke Duffy said he's proud to honor those who died that day and he will never forget.
