The first reports of the fire came in around 5:45 pm Sunday evening.
According to Tim Mowry with the Alaska Division of Forestry, the fire has burned over 500 acres as of Sunday night but was reduced to 380 acres as of 4:30 PM today. The fire is located about seven and a half miles off of 18 mile Chena Hot Springs road.
Over 100 personal have responded to the fire in what Mowry called an aggressive response.
“We pretty much threw everything we had at the fire,” Mowry said.
Two loads of smoke jumpers and a helitack crew were flown to the fire last night, as well as two water tankers, a fire retardant tanker and four helicopters with water buckets.
He said all personal are being flown in by helicopter while they look for a way into the fire by land.
