Emergency Medical Services personnel in Talkeetna have a new roof over their heads – one they don’t have to share. Officials from the Matanuska-Susitna Borough held a ribbon cutting Sunday for a new EMS station and personnel say the building is a vast improvement from the one they had been sharing next door at Fire Station 11. EMS operations chief Tracey Loscar describes her crew's previous space as austere. "There wasn't individual rooms, bedrooms, one shared living space. The kitchen is a microwave and a coffee maker," Loscar said. The new building also has a microwave and a coffee maker, plus a full kitchen, living room and five bedrooms. There's also a training room, so EMS personnel don’t always have to drive to Wasilla for training. The borough says the project cost $1.3 million and that it was paid for with local money. “All Mat-Su Borough residents’ funds from scraps leftover from other projects," said MatSu Borough manager John Moosey.
