As the days get darker, the Matanuska-Susitna Borough is encouraging people to make their homes more visible to first responders. Addressing specialist Hillary Palmer said the small numbers on the side of your house might not be easily seen from the road. She advises people to install numbered signs at the street level so emergency crews don’t have to search for the right house. Scott Williamson with Mat-Su Borough EMS said every second counts when medics are responding to a call. “There are times when the call sounds very serious and we want to be there as quickly as we can to start providing assistance and help," he said. "There’s times when we just can’t find exactly where we’re going and it adds on an extra couple of minutes trying just to make sure we’re in the right spot."
