The Alaskan Fallen Firefighter Memorial Committee, the Alaska State Firefighters Association and the Alaska Fire Chiefs Association held a Sept. 11 ceremony at the Fallen Firefighter Memorial.
The Anchorage Fire Department said Wednesday's ceremony was held in remembrance of those Alaska firefighters and emergency responders who have died in the line of duty.
AFD says this year's service had speakers from across Alaska commemorating the service fire and emergency responders provide every day throughout the year.
Wednesday also marks 18 years since the 9/11 attack.
A firefighter and paramedic, Ben Schultz, was this year's keynote speaker. Schultz suffered from an injury during an aerial ladder truck training accident two years ago.
Toward the end of the service, a special bell ceremony rang for those firefighters in Alaska that were killed in the line of duty.
