A person is dead after a fire at an Anchorage apartment complex that heavily damaged at least two units and caused smoke damage in others. Anchorage Fire Department Assistant Chief Alex Boyd confirmed the fatality, but said the department is not commenting on the cause of death at this time. The person has not yet been identified. There were no other injuries to residents or firefighters. AFD responded to the La Maisonnette Apartment Homes on West 26th Avenue not long after 1:30 p.m. Wednesday. A fire captain on scene said the blaze was determined to be a second-alarm fire when firefighters arrived. It was under control about two hours later at 3:13 p.m.
