According to a press release put out by the Fairbanks North Star Borough (FNSB), the Ester Volunteer Fire Department (EVFD) building roof collapsed Sunday at around 1:45 p.m.. The damage was centralized to the west bay of the building and no one was injured in the collapse. Fire services for the Ester area are being referred to and coordinated with Chena Goldstream Fire Department. The Borough Mayor Bryce Ward expressed how grateful he was that no one was injured and that department staff were so responsive in managing the situation. “The Ester Volunteer Fire Department staff did an excellent job clearing and securing the building after the roof collapse early this morning. I am thankful that no one was injured during this unfortunate event. We can always rebuild a building, however, the lives of our people are the most important thing. Our Public Works Department will work with EVFD and insurance personnel to establish a clearer picture of the timeline for repairs and the reinstatement of services. We thank the Chena Goldstream Fire Department staff for assisting with emergency calls during this time,” said Ward.
