Wellington Manor Apartments in Alabaster has finally completed all its fire safety repairs and passed city inspection. Alabaster Fire Chief Tim Love says all 18 buildings in the apartment complex are now safe to occupy. Residents of 312 apartment units now have a safe place to live. As we’ve been reporting since early last month, more than 2,300 sprinkler heads had to be replaced because they were painted. That limited their ability to work. Alarm systems had to be repaired or replaced, smoke detectors were replaced in many units, and firewalls were installed and sealed in attics. What remains a mystery: Why were there were so many fire code violations that went on for so long?
