A number of homes in Boaz were threatened on Sunday after high winds caused a tree to fall on power lines, sparking a fire that quickly spread.
According to the Boaz Police Department, officers received a call from a resident on Highway 179 Saturday about a tree across power lines.
When officers responded they confirmed the tree was on fire.
Within minutes, high gusts of wind caused the fire to spread rapidly toward homes in the area.
The power company was called and the lines were de-energized while Boaz fire fighters extinguished the flames and warned local residents.
They were able to extinguish it before homes caught fire.
"Thankfully no one was injured and the fire was quickly contained. This is just a reminder of how fast a fire can spread during windy and dry conditions," said the Boaz Police Department.
