According to Center Point Fire District Chief Gene Coleman, it is illegal and dangerous to run over hoses. Although it seems like common sense, it’s more than frustrating to those working to save lives.
Coleman explained that a ruptured hose could impact water pressure and could even stall or stop firefighters from putting out flames. It’s a problem he says is happening often.
“It could cut off the water supply in the building and that high-pressure water can also make the line swing and hit someone,” Coleman said.
Captain Chris Horn said crossing a hose could lead to a moving violation charge.
“In cases of a fire or alarm of fire, the fire department will section off an area with a fire line,” said Horn. “No one is to cross that line without permission.”
The fine could be $200 or more. A lack of knowledge does not excuse these charges.
