One person was found dead at the scene of a southwest Huntsville house fire this morning, authorities said.
Firefighters were called to Wyandotte Drive around 6:15 a.m. Deputy Chief Derrick Stuckey, of Huntsville Fire and Rescue, said crews found a body, though it’s not yet clear what caused the person’s death.
“We don’t know if the person was killed in the fire or if they died before,” Stuckey said.
Huntsville police Sgt. Jack Pugh said investigators are working with fire officials to determine the cause of death.
The cause of the fire also remains under investigation.
Firefighters were still working to extinguish the fire after 8 a.m. Authorities said crews will be at the scene for several hours.
