First responders risk their lives to protect you and me, and they do it with seldom recognition.
One church is showing their appreciation to several volunteer fire departments who helped with tornado recovery in Lee county.
Firefighters with the Hazel Green Volunteer Fire Department were part of crews from across North Alabama that assisted with recovery efforts, after deadly tornadoes ripped through Lee county.
"I don't know how to put it in words. It's something that you don't expect to see, but every area sees it at some point," said Danielle Watson with Hazel Volunteer Fire Department.
First responders say helping others in crisis is something they're passionate about, especially for volunteers who don't get paid to do it.
