Oakman fire chief Shane Calloway told the City Council on Monday that the city fire department has received a FEMA grant valued at $39,093.33.
The money will be used for "hoses, nozzles, appliances, and basic equipment that wears out over the years," according to Calloway. "It's stuff that is well needed."
The city of Oakman will itself apply a five-percent match to the funds, bringing the total to just over $41,000.
The city also applied for a new vehicle, but Calloway said they have yet to receive an answer for that.
In other news from Monday's Council meeting:
Linda Ollie, who has been working with the city since June, received a plaque of appreciation from Mayor Cory Franks. "She has been - if she hadn't been here I don't know what kind of shape we would have been in," Franks said.
