The Marmaduke Fire Department has been looking for volunteer firefighters for months but needs them now more than ever.
“When you see the manpower out on the side of the road somewhere, you can see the need for it,” said Justin May, a new volunteer firefighter for the city of Marmaduke.
Nikki McDowell, the fire chief, said during the summer months when the heat becomes a problem, help is definitely needed.
“I work them for 10 minutes at a time at a fire, so they don’t get overheated,” McDowell said.
The department still struggles to get enough people to be fully staffed.
“It's just too hot, you know,” May said. “We have to rely on other departments to come in and help because we need the manpower. But, I wouldn’t trade this for anything.”
