Blytheville firefighters are investigating the cause of a fire Friday that destroyed a building near an American Legion post in the Mississippi County town. According to Blytheville Fire Chief Mike Carney, the cause of the fire at the building on 1st and Walnut Streets is undetermined but officials consider the fire to be suspicious in nature. Carney said it did not appear that any utilities were hooked up to the part of the building. Blytheville Police Chief Ross Thompson said Friday that a Blytheville officer was in the area of 1st and Walnut Streets around 3:15 p.m. April 5 when the officer noticed smoke. There are no reports of injuries, Thompson said.
