PHOTO: Firefighters responded about noon Wednesday to a debris fire to the rear of the Bashas’ shopping center off Palisades Boulevard. The load in a Republic Services trash collection truck caught fire, and the driver dumped the load in the driveway behind the plaza. Dumping a burning load is standard procedure for fires in a trash truck. Firefighters picked apart the pile to extinguish the smoldering debris. It would later be picked up and placed in another truck for removal.
