VIDEO: Phoenix firefighters extinguished two separate apartment fires Saturday — and rescued animals in both instances.
The first fire was on the second floor of a two-story apartment building near Central Avenue and Bell Road in Phoenix. Department officials told The Arizona Republic about the fire at 2:54 p.m., but it's not clear when or how the fire started.
Smoke was coming from the bedroom window. Firefighters found heavy smoke and fire and extended hose lines to the second floor, the department said.
No residents were inside at the time, since they'd all escaped the fire. But there were two dogs and a cat still in the apartment, according to the department. Firefighters rescued the animals and doused the fire.
Bubba was one of the animals rescued. Officers resuscitated him with a "Fido Bag," a specialized breathing mask that fits on a pet's face to give it oxygen.
