A woman was found dead after a fire broke out in a mobile home early Friday morning near Apache Junction.
Fire crews responded to a house fire call just after 1 a.m., according to Shawn Gilleland of the Rural Metro Fire Department.
When firefighters got to the scene near University Drive and Signal Butte Road, the mobile home was engulfed in heavy fire and smoke, Gilleland said. The home was located just west of Apache Junction city limits.
A resident told firefighters that there may still be someone inside the burning home. Crews made efforts to find the woman before putting out the fire, but she was dead when she was found, according to Gilleland.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
Authorities did not release the woman's name.
Maricopa County sheriff's officials are investigating the fatal fire.
