A motel security guard put out an arson fire at a Phoenix motel. Phoenix police report that on December 18, a security guard at the Red Roof Inn near Interstate 17 and Indian School Road got word of smoke found on the second floor of the motel. There he reportedly saw Erick Quevedo, 38, holding a burning towel and kicking the door to a room. Quevedo dropped the towel and went back into his motel room, police say. Meanwhile, the guard stomped out the burning cloth. Police say they found two lighters in Quevedo's pockets. Court records show that there were 25 guests in the motel at the time. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Quevedo was booked into jail on one count of arson of an occupied structure.
