A 40-year-old man struck by the light rail at 1st Street and Van Buren Road has been transported to a nearby hospital, according to the Phoenix Fire Department. The man, whose identity was not immediately available, was trapped under the light rail "for some time," according to fire officials. He was removed from the tracks and transported to a trauma facility for evaluation, Phoenix FD said. At this time, it is unclear what injuries the man sustained, or how he became trapped under the light rail. Phoenix police will investigate the cause of the incident. Police say the light rail is going to a "single track" operation to minimize delays, but there will be some delays and station closures.
