VIDEO: Firefighters from the Tucson Fire Department were dispatched to a report of smoke from a house on the west side late on Sunday, Jan. 13. A Tucson police officer was first on the scene in the 700 block of West Calle Lerdo and had just forced open the front door when firefighters arrived. As an interior crew searched the house for occupants, firefighters from the ladder crew focused their attention on the fire in the attic. They used a pointed nozzle to pierce the roof from above and sprayed water into the attic, which extinguished most of the flames. After confirming that the house was unoccupied, the interior crew then extinguished remaining flames in a utility closet. It took 23 firefighters and nine units 19 minutes to get the fire under control. No injuries were reported.
