A person trapped in a burning abandoned building was rescued by Eloy firefighters Monday afternoon. According to the Eloy Fire District, a fire crew was driving down Sunshine Boulevard at around 4 p.m. when they noticed smoke coming from a building. The crew relayed information to the station and began to attack the blaze in the building located at 404 S. Sunshine Blvd. "The situation quickly escalated when the crew noticed a citizen in a second story window pleading for help," the fire district reported on Facebook. "The crew acted quickly by entering the structure and erecting a ladder to a mezzanine where the victim was trapped." The person was removed and transported to Banner Casa Grande Medical Center for observation. Eloy firefighters quickly extinguished the fire. It was reported that homeless people were in the building when it caught fire and fled the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
