The town will continue to improve their chances against catastrophic wildfire dangers after they were selected for assistance for wildfire mitigation. Pinetop-Lakeside was chosen with three other communities nationwide to receive help from the Community Planning Assistance for Wildfire (CPAW) program. The program is a grant that has value, but without any money changing hands. It instead, provides expert technical assistance to the community. “The White Mountain’s communities know the impact of wildfire, surviving and recovering from several catastrophic events such as the Rodeo-Chediski, Wallow and Cedar fires. We have an opportunity with this award to continue to explore and implement resources to become resilient while living with the wildfire danger that exists in our community,” Pinetop Fire Chief Jim Morgan said in a press release.
