The Maroon Fire burning northeast of Flagstaff has grown to more than 26 acres this week.
The fire is not expected to impact homes, and is currently being allowed to burn in order to consume forest debris. The fire was caused by lightning and discovered on May 16. "This fire, as with any wildfire, does not have a planned end date, but firefighters are restricting fire activity to a 14,700-acre planning area where the fire may run its natural course," according the national forest's media release.
The fire is located around 16 miles northeast of Flagstaff, near Leupp Road, Forest Roads 244 and 244A. Coconino National Forest expects light smoke to move northeast and impact homes near Moon Crater and areas of the Hopi Reservation.
