The Gilbert Fire and Rescue Department launched its first medical transport system Monday.
Gilbert residents will now be able to be transported via an ambulance, Medic 253. The ambulance is staffed by civilian emergency medical technicians (EMT) and paramedics from Fire Station 3, located in south Tempe.
"We are excited to launch our first ambulance service," said Gilbert Fire and Rescue Chief Jim Jobusch. "Adding ambulance services is in line with Gilbert's City of the Future initiative, ensuring that if there is a disruption in service from the private sector, we will continue to have the ability to get patients to the hospital when they need it most. Gilbert will continue to work with our private ambulance partner, American Medical Response (AMR), and AMR will remain the primary ambulance transportation service in Gilbert."
