VIDEO: A man is in the hospital after a huge fire burned him at his townhome in north Phoenix on Thursday.
A police helicopter crew first spotted the smoke on 26th Avenue, south of Bell Road, and told firefighters about it around 8:30 p.m. Fire crews were called out, and when they got there, they saw flames coming out of the home. "We believe the homeowner might have opened the door from the interior of the home to the garage, and that fire just took off into the house. So, we had smoke and fire all the way up to the second floor," said Capt. Rob McDade with the Phoenix Fire Department.
They searched the home and found the man with severe burns and he had inhaled a lot of smoke, McDade said. He was rushed to the hospital, where he is in critical condition.
