PHOTO: The Eloy Fire District was busy Nov. 19 responding to two structure fires. At 5:05 a.m., units were dispatched to a commercial building fire in the 4000 Block of E. State Route 84. When firefighters arrived on-scene they found thick smoke coming from a processing area within the Monsanto/Bayer facility. A person on scene advised firefighters there was smoldering material within the machinery which began to catch fire. Power to the building was shut-off prior to crews entering due to the potential electrical hazards with the equipment, according to an Eloy Fire District report. After a long process of clearing material from the machinery, crews confirmed the fire was out, the fire district said.
