Three Phoenix police officers were hospitalized after a fire started during a standoff situation Sunday night. Firefighters were called to the home near 30th Avenue and Indian School Road around 8:15 p.m. Police say a female aggravated assault suspect barricaded herself inside the home and caught an unknown substance on fire. As many as three officers were exposed to the smoke when taking the woman into custody, said Phoenix Police Sgt. Vince Lewis. Lewis said the officers were taken to the hospital as a precaution only. The suspect also suffered smoke inhalation and was transported to the hospital for further evaluation. No other injuries have been reported at this time.
