Three vehicles went up in flames in an early morning fire Monday in midtown that drew a multi-agency response.
Benson Fire Chief Keith Spangler said the blaze, a van and two RVs, is suspicious, however, the exact cause is unknown. The fire, in the 300 block of E. 3rd Street just north of the railroad tracks on the east end of the street, is a block away from a previous structure fire. It’s an area, the chief said, “where we’ve had calls before for fires.”
There were no structures affected, the chief said.
“It looks like a van or RVs went up in flames,” one witness reported while the blaze was ongoing at 12:43 a.m. Pomerene and Mescal Fire departments provided mutual aid response, along with HCI, Benson Police Dept., Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, Sulphur Springs Electric Cooperative and City of Benson utilities.
