A surprise visit leads to a joyful reunion in Somerton.
In May of 2017, Jesus Sandoval and a friend wrecked an all-terrain vehicle near the County 17th Main Drain. The ATV hit a concrete piping cover, and the teens were both launched into the Main Drainage Canal.
Fortunately, an Arizona Public Service worker saw the crash. David Hooker ran down the steep bank, and pulled the boys to safety.
Somerton Cocopah first responders arrived to find Jesus in such critical condition, they doubted he would survive. Still, they did their best to save his life. On Monday afternoon, engineer Israel Carbajal and firefighter Anthony Burruel found out just how successful their efforts were. Jesus stopped by the fire station to say hello.
Fire Chief Paul De Anda says it's very rare for a person to survive the sort of injuries Jesus suffered.
