PHOTOS: A wildfire in the Tonto National Forest nearly doubled in size since Tuesday afternoon and remained 0% contained as of Wednesday morning. The Superstition Fire, which was sparked by a lightning strike Aug. 20, grew by almost 2,000 acres to the northwest overnight, which brought the flames down from the bluff to the flats and made it much more visible to nearby communities, according to Tonto National Forest spokesperson Eric Solomon. The fire, which has now burned more than 4,400 acres, is in an area east of Gold Canyon, according to forest officials. No evacuation orders are in place for residents. The eastbound lanes of State Route 88 were closed Wednesday afternoon due to the fire at milepost 201 near Lost Dutchman State Park, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
